          1x + 1x + 2 + 1x+ 4 = -39 ;
 
                   3x + 6 = -39 ;

               Subtract  "6" from EACH side of the equation:

                    3x + 6 − 6  =  -39 − 6 ;

        to get:   3x = -45 ;
