Yes we have a statistical question

This is because we have a sample of data, and it's useful and meaningful to compute sample statistics on that data. For example, we can form a regression line to help see the pattern that the older you get, the more you tend to study. There isn't a direct connection and there are confounding variables, but there's a positive correlation of some sort.

Once we figure out the sample statistics, we can use it to estimate the population at large. The population could be students at a certain school or certain area of the country; while these dots represent the small sample from that population. Keep in mind that anyone in the sample must be part of the population, but not vice versa. We say that the sample is a subset of the population.
