Problem 1
Part a)
The profit at a local coffee shop can be represented by the function
P=f(s) where s is the number of sales each month. Use transformations to write a function that represents the statement “When the number of sales doubles, the shop profit triples. However, monthly rent has increased by $1,000 so the profit decreases by that much.”
Part b)
The point
(1400, 600) is on the graph of the function P=f(s). What point would be on the graph of the transformed function from Part a)? What does this represent in the context of the problem?
Part c)
Having done extensive studies, the coffee shop owner knew that the domain and range of the profit function P=f(s). The domain is [0,3000] and the range is [−2880, 1000]. What is the domain and range of the function you created in Part a)?
