1: Search your home for a rectangular prism. Some examples are a cereal box, a CD case, or a
coffee table. Measure your prism using appropriate units such as inches, centimeters, or feet. List
the dimensions of your box. Be sure to include the units (in, cm, ft, etc.).
Part 2:
Trade measurements with your collaboration partner. Complete the following items. Show all
work for calculations.
1. Describe the shape of the cross section when the box is cut parallel to the base.
2. What is the surface area of the box?
3. What is the surface are of the box if it is scaled up by a factor of 10?
4. What is the volume of the box?
5. What is the volume of the box if it is scaled down by a factor of 110?
6. Return your work to your collaboration partner.
7. Check through your partner's solutions to Questions 2 through 6. If there are any errors,
identify the errors and explain how they should be corrected. Leave the original errors for
your teacher to review.
