A comet following a hyperbolic path about the Sun has a perihelion of 80 Gm. When the line from the comet to the Sun is perpendicular to the focal axis of theβ orbit, the comet is 288 Gm from the Sun. Calculateβ a, b,β c, and e. What are the coordinates of the center of the Sun if the center of the hyperbolic orbit isβ (0,0) and the Sun lies on the positiveβ x-axis?

Here is their argument. given the obtuse angle x, we make a quadrilateral abcd with β dab = x, and β abc = 90β¦, and ad = bc. say the perpendicular bisector to dc meets the perpendicular bisector to ab at p. then pa = pb and pc = pd. so the triangles pad and pbc have equal sides and are congruent. thus β pad = β pbc. but pab is isosceles, hence β pab = β pba. subtracting, gives x = β padββ pab = β pbc ββ pba = 90β¦. this is a preposterous conclusion β just where is the mistake in the "proof" and why does the argument break down there?

Afactory makes propeller drive shafts for ships. a quality assurance engineer at the factory needs to estimate the true mean length of the shafts. she randomly selects four drive shafts made at the factory, measures their lengths, and finds their sample mean to be 1000 mm. the lengths are known to follow a normal distribution whose standard deviation is 2 mm. calculate a 95% confidence interval for the true mean length of the shafts. input your answers for the margin of error, lower bound, and upper bound.
