5.3 An accounting clerk is responsible for computing the effective number of hours worked daily (regular time (1.5 x overtime)) for each of 500 production workers and for recording the number of days absent each week on the time sheet for each worker. These two functions (computing effective daily hours per worker and recording number of days absent each week per worker) are the job characteristics upon which she is judged. The accounting supervisor draws weekly random samples of 50 time sheets to monitor and help improve the clerk's performance. The following chart reflects 30 weeks of analysis.
