Students conducted a survey to determine whether local high school students wear
their seat belts. First, they asked 60 students whether they wear their seat belts
when they ride or drive in a car. 90% of students surveyed respond that they do wear
their seat belts.
The students conducting
the survey followed up with another survey to check their
results. This time, the students sat at the corner of the high school driveway and
counted the number of students wearing their seat belts and the number of students
not wearing their seat belts as the cars drove by. Of the 19 students counted, 12 were
wearing their seat belts.
Do the results of the count agree with those of the first survey? Justify your answer by explaining why the second study and data do or do not adequately support the
original survey.
