Candy and tim share a paper route. it takes candy 65 min to deliver all the papers, and it takes tim 85 min. how long does it take the two when they work together?

Let x be the total number of papers that need to be delivered. 

Number of papers Candy can deliver in 1 minute =x/85
Number of papers Tim can deliver in 1 minute =x/65 

Time taken for both Tim and Candy all the papers together =x/ (x/85 +x/65) 
= x/ (150x/ 5525) 
=221/ 6 minutes
=36 minutes 50 seconds

It takes Tim and Candy 36 Minutes and 50 Seconds to deliver all the papers when they work together.
