Weston used the steps below to determine the percent equivalent to StartFraction 1 Over 40 End Fraction. Step 1:

Step 2: StartFraction 1 Over 40 EndFraction = StartFraction question mark Over 100 EndFraction. StartFraction 1 Over 40 EndFraction = StartFraction question mark Over 100 EndFraction. Multiply both sides by 2.5.

Step 3: 1 times 2.5 = 2.5

Step 4: Start Fraction 2.5 Over 100 End Fraction = 25%

What was Weston’s error?
In Step 2, the second fraction should have been out of a multiple of 40.
In Step 2, the multiplication relationship shown should have been division.
In Step 4, the decimal should not have been moved.
In Step 4, the decimal should have been moved two places instead of one.

(a) compute the maclaurin polynomial m2(x) for f(x) = cos x. (b) use the polynomial of part (a) to estimate cos π 12. (c) use a calculator to compute the error made using the estimate from part (b) for the value of cos π 12. remember that the error is defined to be the absolute value of the difference between the true value and the estimate.
