-- Each lap  =  1/6 of a mile.

-- 5/6 of a mile requires 5 laps.



Using a proportion:

                       ('L' laps) / (5/6 mile)  =  (6 laps) / (1 mile)

Cross-multiply the proportion:

                       L lap-mile  =  (6) x (5/6) lap-mile

Divide each side by  mile :

                         L lap  =  (6) x (5/6) lap  =  5 lap

This shows to me that one lap is 1/6 so you would multiply 6 by 5 to get you the answer.
