There is an unknown number of bears in the cave at the beginning of the day. Then... the bears divided into 4 equal groups, and all but one group left the cave to go find some picnic baskets, so only 1/4 of the total bears were still in the cave. Then 6 more bears came into the cave. Then each bear had 1 friend join them in the cave, doubling the amount. The total number of bears in the cave at the end of day was 26 Write an equation to represent the story above to help us find how many bears were in the cave at the beginning of the day.
