Nicky and Marta Nicky thinks that you can get two different answers when finding the tax on
multiple items.
First: Find the cost of each item with the tax. Then add to find the total
price. For exam
($9 + tax) + ($7 + tax) + ($4 + tax) + ($4 + tax) = one total price
Second: Add up the prices of each individual item. Then find the tax and
total. She thinks that these two strategies will give you two different results.
$9 + $7 + $4 + $4 → amount for all the items
amount for all the items + tax = a different total price
Marta disagrees with Nicky. She claims the answers are the same because of
the Distributive Property.
Who is correct? Explain.
