5x − 4 = 3x + 8

5x - 4 + 4 = 3x + 8 + 4

5x = 3x + 12

5x - 3x = 3x + 12 - 3x

2x = 12

2x / 2 = 12 / 2

x = 6

a1=base*height/2=(8+2)*(8-2-2-1)/2=10*3/2=15 ft^2

a2=length*width=(8+2)*1=10 ft2

a3=length*width=8*2=16 ft2
