Our project was very successful when we tested because it gave us valid results which helped to prove our hypothesis’ correct. Bermuda seeds fertilized with banana peel fertilizer yielded more seed germination as compared to control and commercial fertilizer. Every week seed germination was counted for a 5 week period.
In phase 3 of the experiment, green algae fed with runoff water from banana peel fertilizer showed less algal growth as compared to commercial fertilizer. Dissolved oxygen was measured in order to determine algal growth.
However, as shown in our Error Analysis, we could have conducted this research in a greenhouse setting and we should have measured the grass height instead of counting on how many seeds germinated. We also could have measured the nitrogen levels of the algae to improve our findings. We also could have measured the amount of NPK, the Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium because those are the three most vital things for any plant to grow. And finally, we could have used better containers instead of using plastic gallon water jugs.
In the future we could measure the height of seeds with Organic bananas versus Non-Organic bananas to see if that could have affected anything. We also could implement this experiment into the real world by taking this experiment to a big scale.
