A restaurant chain wants to change their oil from peanut oil to canola oil in order to save money. However, the restaurant wants to survey their customers to see which oil they prefer. For one month, the restaurant serves food cooked in peanut oil and for the next month they serve food cooked with canola oil. Surveys are sent out with guests which ask to rate their fried food on a scale of 1 to 7. The results of the returned surveys are given below. Is there enough evidence to conclude that there is no difference in the satisfaction level of the customer? Use a level of significance of 2%.

Peanut Oil Canola Oil
n1 = 108 n2 = 87
x⎯⎯1x¯1 x⎯⎯2x¯2
s1 = 2.25 s2 = 3.18

1. What is the p-value for this hypothesis test? Round your answer to four decimal places.

In tests of a computer component, it is found that the mean time between failures is 937 hours. A modification is made which is supposed to increase reliability by increasing the time between failures. Tests on a sample of 36 modified components produce a mean time between failures of 960 hours, with a standard deviation of 52 hours. Is there enough evidence to support the claim that, on average, the modified components last longer than 937 hours between failures? Use a level of significance of 5%.
