Ice Design
UNIT NAME: MEASUREMENT
Directions: Modern Design magazine is having a contest to design the best ice cube in one of three shapes—a cube, a sphere, or a cylinder. Use the following guidelines to make your choice and complete your contest entry.
1. Find and simplify the volume-to-surface-area ratio for each of the three possible ice cube shapes. You can use this chart.
Shape Surface Area Formula Volume Formula
cube S. A. 6s2 V s 3
sphere S. A. 4r2 V  r3
cylinder S. A. 2 r2 2 rh V r h2

2. Use the ratios to choose the best shape for an ice cube—a cube, sphere, or cylinder. Also, choose what you think is the best size for that shaped ice cube.
3. Consider these questions as you make your decision:
a. Since the purpose of an ice cube is to keep a drink cold, is it better for an ice cube to have a high volume or a low volume?
b. Since heat touching the surface of an ice cube causes it to melt, is it better for an ice cube to have a large surface area or a small surface area?
c. Which volume-to-surface-area ratio would be better for an ice cube— the lowest possible or the highest possible?
d. How does increasing the size of an object affect its volume-to-surface area ratio?
4. Create a visual model to show your ice cube design, including the dimensions you would choose and the volume and surface area of that cube.
Your visual model and the explanation of your choice of ice cube shape and size will be submitted as your portfolio assessment.

Me on this one i will give you 20pts. answer should be in detail . this is the discussion topic. one of the most fiercely debated topics in sports is the hot hand theory. the hot hand theory says that success breeds success. in other words, rather than each shot a basketball player takes or each at-bat a baseball player has being an independent event, the outcome of one event affects the next event. that is, a player can get hot and make a lot of shots in a row or get a lot of hits in a row. the hot hand theory, however, has been shown to be false in numerous academic studies. read this article, which discusses the hot hand theory as it relates to a professional basketball player. state whether you agree or disagree with the hot hand theory, and give reasons for your opinion. be sure to use some of the terms you’ve learned in this unit, such as independent event, dependent event, and conditional probability, in your answer.
