You have an on-line travel website. You
contract with cities to attract vacationers to
their attractions. San Diego wants to attract
tourists to come to their city during the summer
months of July and August. You looked up the
average daily temperature for each day in the
month from last summer (see table of
temperatures for San Diego in July and August
page 8). You want to attract different groups
of people to San Diego. Read a profile of each group.
Group 1: Families from Northern States and Canada.
Your target clients are families looking for sunny, mild weather. Their dream vacation is
to be in a location where the temperature varies between the high 70o to low 90o, mostly
in the 80o’s. The families like to visit the beach and amusement parks.
Group 2: College Students in Mid-West
Your target clients are college students located in a small mid-west town with a major
university. Your clients are mostly college students. During the summer, students like to
go to the beach, surf and play volleyball. They are very attracted to hot weather,
especially in the high 90’s and over 100o.
Group 3: Senior Citizens
Your target clients are senior citizens who live in a large retirement community. The
seniors love to go on trips to warm places. They love tours, the zoo and shopping. They
like their weather in the high 80’s and low 90’s.
Group 4: The Yachting Crowd
Your target clients own yachts and sailboats. They are interested in sailing in the Pacific
Ocean with nice sea breezes. The sailors love the temperatures on land to be in the 90’s
so it is warm and pleasant out on the sea.
Using the same set of data from the temperatures in San Diego in July and August,
create four different graphs, such that each one caterers to the likes of each of the
four groups. Draw the graphs so that each groups feels that the temperature is
ideal for a vacation suited just for them.
