Because if she has 7/8 and she needs 3/16, we have to find common denominators. so the lowest on would be 16. and if you multiply the denominator, you will have to times it by the numerator. so the new amount will be that grandma has 14/16 of cocoa and the recipe needs 3/16. then you just need to know how much 3 goes into 14, and that would be 4.

because linear equations are a lot simpler than quadratics equations, and linear equations formula is a lot easier to memorize. that's why i think they're harder.
