You are in charge of purchasing sandwiches at a local restaurant for your co-workers. you return to work with a bag full of 16 sandwiches: 5 turkey, 4 veggie, 3 roast beef, 2 ham, 1 tuna salad, and 1 pastrami. pam ordered a veggie sandwich, so you reach your hand into the bag and pull out two sandwiches. both of the chosen sandwiches are turkey sandwiches. if you leave these two sandwiches out of the bag and reach in again to pull out another sandwich, what is the probability the next sandwich you choose will be a veggie sandwich? assume when you are reaching into the bag that the remaining sandwiches are well mixed so that you are randomly selecting the next sandwich.

Prove (a) cosh2(x) βˆ’ sinh2(x) = 1 and (b) 1 βˆ’ tanh 2(x) = sech 2(x). solution (a) cosh2(x) βˆ’ sinh2(x) = ex + eβˆ’x 2 2 βˆ’ 2 = e2x + 2 + eβˆ’2x 4 βˆ’ = 4 = . (b) we start with the identity proved in part (a): cosh2(x) βˆ’ sinh2(x) = 1. if we divide both sides by cosh2(x), we get 1 βˆ’ sinh2(x) cosh2(x) = 1 or 1 βˆ’ tanh 2(x) = .
