Simplify both sides of the equation

-2b-2=16

Add 2 to both sides

-2b-2+2=16+2

-2b=18

Divide both sides by -2

-2b/-2 = 18/-2

b= -9

Substitute -9 for b in a=b -2

a=b -2

a=-9-2

Simplify both sides of the equation

a= -11
