Why is ti that when you add two numbers together (5+5,6+6,3+3, etc.) you get an even sum? ? i need this for my 8 year-old-brother

When you add the same number together, it is always going to be an even number

Think of this as:

half + half = whole

whole + whole will still = whole

whole meaning even, and half meaning odds.
