What is factoring ? like i need it to be explained how to do it bc i been struggling since the beginning of summer ( i am in 9th grade btw..going)

what is factoring ? factoring is the process of finding the factors:

factoring: finding what to multiply together to get an expression.

it is like "splitting" an expression into a multiplication of simpler expressions.

example: factor 2y+6

both 2y and 6 have a common factor of 2:

2y is 2 × y

6 is 2 × 3

so we can factor the whole expression into:

2y+6 = 2(y+3)

so 2y+6 has been "factored into" 2 and y+3

a function could be identified in 3 ways either on a chart,graph, or ordered pairs. first a function is that each point has its own. the rule is that there can be many x's to one y but there can not be 2 x's at different y's. so on a graph when you put a straight line through the y's there should be one dot only to be a function.
