Take the volume of each box separately to find the difference between them.  we have then that the volume of the boxes is:   v = (l) * (w) * (h)  where,  l: long  w: width  h: height  the smaller box:   v1 = (12) * (2) * (7 3/4)  v1 = 186 in ^ 3  the lager box:   v2 = (12) * (2) * ((7 3/4) * (100/80))  v2 = 232.5 in ^ 3  the difference is:   v2-v1 = 232.5 in ^ 3 - 186 in ^ 3 = 46.5 in ^ 3  answer:   the difference in the volumes of the two boxes is:   46.5 in ^ 3
