So, greater number = 7 + 2x

So, 43 = greater number + smaller number

43 = 2x + 7 + x

43 = 3x + 7

Subtract 7 on both sides

43 - 7 = 3x + 7 - 7

36 = 3x

12 = x

Smaller number = 12

Greater number = 2x + 7 = 2(12) + 7 = 31
