Categories of Law Read the scenario below. You are asked to make a list of the areas of law that may be involved. Separate the various items on your list according to whether they could be classified as public law or private law. Just then, you hear a siren, as a thief runs out of the bank, clutching a bag of money. He knocks over a young man and then shoots him with a small pistol. All this activity makes you tired and you get into your leased vehicle and go home to your mortgaged house. You put on the radio and your neighbour bangs on the wall, complaining about the noise. Then the door knocks. On the doorstep is a salesman. He had rung the doorbell before knocking, but it had caused him to suffer an electric shock. You tell him you are not interested in what he is selling and he reluctantly goes off down the garden path, where he slips on a patch of ice and injures his back. Later in the day, you look out of the back window and discover that while you were out, your neighbour has moved his garden fence and it is now six inches further into your property than it was this morning. Furious, you go round to tell him what you think, lose your temper, and hit him. Then your employer rings and says that he is making you redundant.
