Why do military judge advocates have an academic background that includes more than a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university? Judge advocates are also officers above the rank of colonel and, as a result, have an advanced military education.

Judge advocates must be knowledgeable of all aspects of communications technology and are therefore required to have a minimum of a master’s degree in engineering.

Judge advocates are also attorneys and have received their law degrees after a three-year postgraduate program at an accredited law school.

Judge advocates need only a high school diploma.
