2. Rose, 42, owns a successful business. Her mother Irma, 65, will retire from her job at the end of the
year. However, Irma's meager savings and Social Security payments are not enough for her to continue
paying rent where she lives. Irma can move to a publicly supported home for the elderly but would
prefer to stay in her own apartment.

Does Rose have a legal obligation to support her mother? Should the law require adult children to
support their parents when they are in need? Do people have a moral obligation to support their needy
parents?
