China underwent many reforms in the 1970s, which reform(s) do you feel were the most influential in making china an economic powerhouse

When Nixon decide to make a visit to China.  
China needed a place to sell their junk.  
Americans are still buying it today.  
USA is still giving money to China today.  
We have been at a trade deficit with China since 1973?

(Nixon wanted to buddy up with China, to help with against Soviet Union.  What most do not know, at that time is that China and Soviet Union did not like each other anyway.)
