The voting rights act of 1965 was known as a landmark for federal legislation of United States. This act prohibits racial discriminating in voting. It was signed by then president of United States, Lyndon B. Johnson during the time of civil right movement that was going in United States. This act was amended five times by congress to expand the protections it provides to its voters. This act was designed to enforce the voting rights which were there in fourteenth and fifteenth amendments of constitution of United States. Right to vote for racial minorities which were there in the country during that time and majority of them were from Southern part of the country were secured. This right is known to be the most effective act of federal civil rights ever entered to the constitution of United States. The general provisions which are there in this act provide protection to the voters nationwide. This act also stops state and local governments to impose any new law regarding voting.
