Nationalism had each nation looking at itself as superior to its surrounding nations and in competition with them for supremacy.

Imperialism was a way in which the nations of Europe took their national pride and competitiveness to global levels, vying with one another for commercial and political control of regions in other parts of the world (mainly Africa and Asia).
