Genesis to Deuteronomy = LAW 
Joshua to Esther = HISTORY
Job to Song of Solomon = POETRY
Isaiah to Malachi = PROPHECY
Matthew to Acts = NEW TESTAMENT HISTORY
Romans to Jude = EPISTLES
Revelation = APOCALYPTIC

A historical note:  If we were dividing according to the Jewish divisions of the Old Testament, we'd speak of the Law, the Prophets and the Writings.  Genesis to Deuteronomy were the books of the Law.  From Joshua to Kings were considered the "Former Prophets" and from Isaiah to Malachi the "Latter Prophets."  The "Writings" equated mostly to the books listed above in the "poetry" category, but also included some history and prophecy books such as Daniel and Esther.

It can provide a social code to protect each citizen's future economical earnings. and then obviously defending the country from invading countries.
