The modern state of saudi arabia was established in 1932 by abd al aziz al saud (ibn saud). this occurred following a 30-year effort to unify the arabian peninsula. the current leader of saudi arabia is ibn saud's son, abdullah bin abd al-aziz. this is in agreement with the 1992 basic law of government, which states that the country will be ruled by the male descendants of ibn saud.
