Who is "ra", and what is his story?

God of the sun, Ra was the subject of several conflicting myths. He was also responsible for creating everything. Ra is also called the Father of the Gods, as he is said to the father of other primary gods (kinda like Zeus). Ra was thought to die each night and be reborn in the morning. Other legends claim that he chased away the darkness and chaos that was going to destroy the world.  Some claimed that he traveled across the sky during the day and passed through the underworld at night when the sun was hidden. Others claim that he was swallowed whole by his mother every night at sundown and reborn the following morning. Regardless, Ra was the supreme god for most of ancient Egyptian history and the ultimate source of justice in the cosmos.
