Why did the us wait to enter world war 2 until 1941

I think they waited to enter World War II until 1941 because they weren't being very affected by the war until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.                                                                                

They wanted to stay neutral. However, after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941, they decided to enter. :) I hope this helps!
