What is the name of the manufacturing process whereby people do piece work in their own homes?

I believe the name is homeworking.
In general, the workers that hired by the  company held the status as freelancer, not a part of company's employees.
This give the workers the flexibility  to schedule their own works while balancing the life with their family at the same time.
