Something comparable like it happened to Louis XIV can happen to any leader, it is not a criteria for good or bad leadership. (JFK was not a bad leader because he was assassinated). It is therefore not so clear if LouisXIV was a "poor leader". He had other preferences like his 23 children, 6 being legal and 17 from relationships outside of marriage. And according to offcial statements the number "17" includes only the known ones.
