Aristotle was taught by Plato, who gives his opinion of democracy in this excerpt.
How grandly does (democracy) trample all these
fine notions of ours under her feet, never giving a
thought to the pursuits which make a statesman, and
promoting to honor any one who professes to be the
people's friend
And when they (democratic principles) have emptied
and swept clean the soul of him who is now in their
power and who is being initiated bythem in great
mysteries, the next thing is to bring back to their house
insolence (rudeness) and anarchy Ĺżlawlessness) and
waste and impudence in bright array having garlands on
their heads, and a great company with them, hymning
their praises and calling them by sweet names
- Plato, Republic, Book VIII, c. 360 B. C.E
Can someone put this into simple terms?
