The Panama Canal is still in use today. In what ways does it serve to benefit world trade?

The panama canal serves a benefit in world trade today by being deeper and wider then it was back in the day. It can hold twice as more cargo this way, while still being super fast.  It now has a third lane or channel which leads directly into the pacific ocean. Most importantly though is the fact that it can fit today's mega ships.

i believe that the answer to the question provided above is that  establishing smaller ethnic communities within larger communities  gives more chance for people to know each other more but this might lead to the  conflict between groups.
