If I was an emancipated slave in the South at the end of the Civil War, I would hope to be given a chance to be treated fairly among my neighbors. Although I may be free, I probably won't have the respect of the people around me. I'm different, and although I can't change that fact, I would hope that everyone would treat me the same; with the same amount of respect everyone else deserves. Another thing I would hope to achieve would be the ability to work among my neighbors. I'm free, that much is true, but I don't think that would be enough to get me the same jobs and the same amount of money as everyone else. The last thing I want is the ability to be open to the same opportunities as everyone else.

As an emancipated slave I will be hopeful for the following changes:

1. Fair and equal treatment

2. Ability to work

3. Same opportunities like everyone else.
