Mandela’s speech shows that the South African government discriminated against nonwhites in many ways. For example, the government did not allow nonwhites to vote. It also limited their job opportunities. Nonwhites could not own homes or land. Also, nonwhites had to live in areas approved by the government, and they had to follow government curfews.
