For the expansion of their national territories, their natural supply of natural resources, more global control over other areas or countries, and the removal of something one feels or deems as wrong or bad

The country may want economic gain.  Territorial gain Is a big idea to dwell on, for this is the reason most countries have fought back then.  Religion related wars can relate to today and in the past. and lastly revenge from previous experiences.
