Why was the black legend significant/important?

The black legend became significant because of the annihilation which had almost occurred during the Spanish colonization during their time, it has became an impact for them for it is a way of having a moral level among themselves in competence with other countries as they feel like it is a way of having to remind them their way of defending their own as a way of bringing their civilization.
