The Levitt family had started building cheap suburban homes located outside of city limits that were affordable and increasingly available to the large influx of returning veterans from WWII. More babies being born meant more homes needed and more space. With a location outside of city limits and a lack of easy public transportation, the Interstate Highway Act of 1956 build over 41,000 miles of highways that allowed for better transportation and accessibility to these communities.
