What had the aztecs done that caused other native tribes to resent them and thus be willing to cortes in his conquest?

Aztecs were very violent so they would often conquer other villages and tribes and sack their cities and then take prisoners of war who would be ritually sacrificed to their gods. It was very gruesome and almost like in the cartoons where they sacrifice people to volcano gods or anything similar.
