What was a root cause of the containment policy?

The Containment Policy was a policy that the United States Government supported in an effort to counter the Soviet Union and its influence around the globe during the Cold war. The policy of containment was put into place due to ideological differences, a power struggle, and a general fear of Soviet expansion into other parts of the war.
