Bonanza farms were really large farming estates established in the ninteenth century in the western regions of the U.S. The main characteristics of bonanza farms, which started in 1870´s were the use of advanced technological devices and large-scale production, in conjunction with the advancement of railroads, to feed the growing markets both in the East and West coasts. These enormous, and well-groomed and kept stretches of land were mostly owned by companies, not families, and were run exactly in such a way. They also mostly depended on migrants to work them and run them.

These farms specialized in two things: the large-scaled production of wheat, which was shipped and moved by railroads, and also, the raising of cattle. So both of these things would be what would be most common for bonanza ranch owners, the large-scale planting and production of wheat, and also, raising of cattle.
