What was the role of family in colonial life?

Back in the colonial times, the role of the family was to contribute in different ways to make a living together. Usually, gender roles played a part in the ways family members contributed. The women of the household usually maintained the house (the mom would raise the children), and the men hunted, built, and went to the market to trade. Hope this helps! :)
