1) After reading the Pro Caelio and the Lesbia poems, compare the accounts of Clodia. Please use Marilyn Skinner’s book to provide context for your argument. I would also urge you to keep in mind that one is a legal source the other a literary source. This may include a discussion of the author, audience, and purpose of the texts and hence the depictions. 2) Using the documents in Dillon and Gardner, create an argument concerning how the use of Clodia by Cicero and by Catullus reflect general ideas about women and gender in the Roman world. Be sure to discuss where these two authors present an image consistent with AND different from what might be seen as gender norms for the time.
3) Finally, describe how your views on Roman women, the family, or gender were adjusted based on your readings for this week, your thought and analyses for this paper, and the process of writing this assignment.
