Think about our reading this week and the video, "Dear America: So Far From Home." Why do you think some Americans resented immigrants? Remember to provide reasons to support your answer.

They resented them because they took their jobs. Also because they felt that immigrants would destroy the economy. Adding on the homestead act took many of the native's land.

I think Americans resented immigrants because they were Jewish or Catholic. Most of the immigrants were poor and unskilled. But, if you take a close look at our history and even the world today, immigrants helped and are helping to build America. The only thing they are asking for in return is a piece of land for their family. Better jobs so that they can have money to buy food and clothes for their wives and children. And religious and political freedom without being judged. The Americans also feared the immigrants would be willing to work for a very low wage. They also feared that the newcomers, or the immigrants,  would take away jobs from other Americans.
