Communism mainly appealed to the average Russian due to poor living conditions. Before the revolution, many 'farmers' lived as serfs (basically slaves) for their entire lives. Communism offered a chance at a better life and society. This caused many of them to teach their children and influence those around them by the premise of being able to live a decent life. When the revolution sprung, many people were ready to follow Karl's advice about the working class creating their own society.
